CALHOUN, Ga. — Oct. 9, 2013 — Surya  today announced that the company’s Miles for Meals initiative has raised more than $38,000 for Akshaya Patra, one of the world’s largest NGO-run school lunch programs. On Sunday, Oct. 6, 24 Surya employees ran in the Allstate Atlanta 13.1 Marathon to raise funds for the charitable organization, which serves a freshly prepared, nutritious lunch each day to more than 1.3 million children throughout rural India. The program not only helps to reduce hunger and malnutrition, but also provides an incentive for children to attend school.

In 2012, Surya’s president, Satya Tiwari, who himself grew up in a small village in Northeastern India, saw the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of impoverished children and their families and donated $250,000 on behalf of Surya to Akshaya Patra. As a result, thousands of children living in rural Indian villages were given access to healthy meals for an entire year.

The “Miles for Meals” program was launched soon thereafter to help raise additional funds for the organization via participation in a half marathon event. Fifteen Surya employees participated in the inaugural Miles for Meals run in 2012, raising $29,000 to feed more than 1,900 children for the coming year. Backed by the generous support of friends, family, customers and the local community, Surya employees once again ran “with a purpose,” exceeding the program’s 2013 fundraising goal of $35,000 by more than $3,000 to date, providing over 2,500 children with lunchtime meals during the next year.

“Hunger should never be a barrier to education,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every person who has contributed their time and money to benefit this important cause. Together, we are able to positively impact the lives of thousands of children and the communities in which they live, one meal at a time.”

In response to the strong outpouring of support for Miles for Meals, Surya has increased this year’s fundraising goal to $40,000 and will continue to accept donations through the end of October. It costs just $15 to feed a child for the entire school year. To learn more about the work of Akshaya Patra and the Miles for Meals program, visit

CALHOUN, Ga. — Oct. 4, 2013 — Surya will debut mirror and lighting collections at the company’s flagship showroom, Showplace 4100, during the High Point Fall 2013 Market. Featuring a range of inspired designs available in multiple color palettes, textures and finishes, these latest additions to Surya’s product portfolio complement the brand’s existing offerings—including an extensive range of rugs, pillows, poufs, throws and art—to simplify the selection of accessories for today’s modern living spaces.

“With the entry into mirrors and lighting, we are able to offer our retail and designer customers an even wider selection of on-trend and relevant home decor products while streamlining the shopping experience,” said Lynne Meredith, vice president of product development. “Our expansion into these categories is part of our strategy to develop a fully coordinating product portfolio that corresponds with a variety of lifestyles and home decor preferences—enabling customers to easily design a complete room that reflects their individual style.”

Surya’s mirror collection includes an assortment of decorative frames, available in a variety of finishes and both beveled and non-beveled designs. CALHOUN, Ga. — Oct. 2, 2013 — Home accessories brand Surya today announced that 100,000 fans and counting have “liked” its Facebook page. “Surya not only has ‘shown up’ for social media but, as a clear early adopter and leading brand, also deeply understands the importance of social media in today’s fast moving business environment,” said Lisa Ferguson, founder of Decor Mentor, an educational collaborative community for interior design professionals and consumers. “Surya is a role model in promoting active engagement among its fans and offers real value to the market via its strong social media presence.”

“At the core of Surya is a portfolio of great products with great value and an ongoing commitment to relevancy in an ever-evolving home decor industry,” added Jason Harris, founder of The Design Network, a site that shares inspiring videos about interior design, style and home fashion. “Surya’s commitment to social media marketing is simply an extension of the underlying essence of the brand.”

Surya is continuing to extend its reach into social media and is actively exploring new social platforms. “Today, more than ever, brands must listen to and interact with end consumers,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “We have built a dynamic social media community across all of our social media sites where our customers – and their customers – can engage in online discussions, view curated content, participate in product giveaways and share design projects and store promotions with the Surya online community. Company introduces more than 200 new indoor-outdoor products, including launch of outdoor art collection

CALHOUN, Ga. — Sept. 13, 2013 — Surya will be exhibiting for the first time at the 2013 International Casual Furniture and Accessories Market (Casual Market) to be held Tuesday, Sept. 17 to Friday, Sept. 20 at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago. Surya will spotlight its expansive range of indoor-outdoor home accessories, which includes hundreds of rug and pillow options, as well as more than 70 poufs and a recently added indoor-outdoor art collection. Available in a broad spectrum of colors, textures and styles, these versatile products are designed to resist the elements while adding ambience to outdoor living spaces.

Outdoor living areas increasingly have become extensions of the home. According to findings of the American Institute of Architects’ 2013 Home Design Trends Survey, homeowners are continuing to invest in their properties, both by adding to existing outdoor living areas and by blending indoor and outdoor spaces. This trend has driven the need for fashionable, durable exterior home accessory solutions that are both functional and inviting.

“As the line blurs between indoor and outdoor living spaces, homeowners expect their outdoor environments to provide style and comfort, to have more of the feeling and function of an indoor space,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “The expansion of our indoor-outdoor product offering enables us to provide our designer and retail customers with the convenience of a single source for both indoor and outdoor home accessories while also providing impactful training, merchandising and display solutions that facilitate the successful marketing and selling of home accessories.”

Surya introduced its first collection of indoor-outdoor products in 2007. The brand’s offerings in this area have continued to evolve and now include a collection of indoor-outdoor art. Suitable for use in covered outdoor environments, this new art collection spans a range of motifs - including colorful seaside scenes, maps and whimsical designs - to infuse casual comfort into both classic and contemporary outdoor spaces. Also introduced recently is a new outdoor rug pad designed to increase rug longevity.

Casual Market attendees are invited to visit Surya at Booth #8-4055 to explore the latest trends and colorful product introductions in indoor-outdoor accessories.

CALHOUN, Ga. — April 23, 2013 — La-Z-Boy, one of the world's leading residential furniture producers and retailers, recently recognized home accessories brand Surya, with the Vendor Partner of the Year Award during the company's Vendor Appreciation Dinner that took place on April 17th, 2013, in High Point, NC. This annual event brings together key vendors who support La-Z-Boy in the goal of helping its customers to Live Life Comfortably. In lieu of giving a plaque to Surya, La-Z-Boy contributed $500 to Surya's philanthropic partner, the Akshaya Patra Foundation, a life-changing meal program that feeds 1.3 million underprivileged children daily in schools across India.

"Our Vendor Partner of the Year Award is the highest recognition the La-Z-Boy Retail Division bestows on our vendor partners," said Dan King, Vice President Retail Division, La-Z-Boy Inc. "Surya earned this honor through consistent execution of our customers' orders, teaming up with our buyers to stay relevant in the market place and by having strong sales performance. In addition, we were very impressed with Surya's commitment to philanthropic efforts and helping those who are less fortunate. We feel very thankful to have a world-class team like Surya helping La-Z-Boy Retail to delight our clients."

Surya's association with La-Z-Boy has grown over the years, and this latest recognition solidifies the long-standing relationship between the two.  "We're extremely honored to receive this award from a retailer like La-Z-Boy - a brand that consistently shows such commitment and attentive service to its customers. It reaffirms that the passion we put behind our products and services can directly translate to shopper satisfaction," said Surya President, Satya Tiwari. "This honor also further strengthens our commitment to customer service and our ongoing efforts to develop training and sales tools that simplify the rug and accessory shopping experience."

Surya is currently showcasing its latest product introductions at High Point Spring Market 2013, running through April 25th. All Market visitors are invited to stop by the brand's Showplace 4100 flagship location to explore all of its colorful new styles.

CALHOUN, Ga. — April 21, 2013 — Home accessories brand Surya announces the launch of its first upholstered accent furniture collection. The spirited new range has made its debut at the company’s flagship showroom, Showplace 4100, during the High Point Spring 2013 Market, April 20 – April 25. A natural extension of the brand’s popular pouf collection, the 50+ piece series is the brand’s initial foray into this growing category.

Hand made in India and retail-priced from $199 to $1,499, the broad range of ottomans, benches and foot stools showcases a myriad of colorful styles. The wool upholstery for the new collection takes its design cues from some of Surya’s best-selling flat weave patterns including bold stripes, geometrics, medallions, chevron and houndstooth.

“Our goal is to be the retailer and designer’s one-stop shop for home accessories. We understand that rugs, pillows and other accessories are often the place where the consumer gets to experiment with a new style or color trend that may be too much of a financial commitment in a large furniture piece. Continuing to expand our offerings into small upholstered goods felt like the next logical step in offering a full range of options to our customer,” says Surya President, Satya Tiwari.

This new range will be an extension of what he is best known for in the world of fashion – bold patterns and intense palettes, unified through a modern approach to design.

Som says he could not be happier with his collaboration with Surya – noting that the finished pieces are exactly as he had envisioned. “I'm thrilled to partner with Surya on this new collection, because it has enabled me to bring my signature runway prints and patterns to a new area of home decor,” says Som. CALHOUN, Ga. — April 17, 2013 — Home accessories brand Surya is pleased to announce an exclusive new line of pillows inspired by the archival designs of the late Australian designer Florence Broadhurst. Broadhurst was known for the bold patterns of her extensive wallpaper collection – inspired by her world travels, passionate love of art and colorful personality. “Florence Broadhurst was one of the most pioneering designers of the 20th century and her vast library of work continues to be as relevant today as when she first created them,” says Surya President Satya Tiwari. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to partner with Florence’s estate to bring some of her most beautiful designs to life again through a new series of colorful, boldly patterned pillows.”

Spain will walk through the collection and share her personal inspirations at a Designer Spotlight event on Sunday, April 21 at 2 pm.

Known for her exuberant color sense and hand-drawn garden-inspired aesthetic, Kate Spain brings a diverse range of influences to her collaboration with Surya. “I’m grateful to be working with Surya’s amazingly talented team. The collection we’ve created pivots on new, organic forms from vibrant ancient cultures and places,” explains Spain. “The Seville and Alhambra rugs evolved from my pottery work in Spanish majolica and from my delight in ceramic tiles from the old and new worlds. The Cuzco designs pick up on the explosive colors and ikats in the vibrant woven arts of the Central Andes. The Rivoli series is inspired by the lacework of Ireland and France. The Marseilles designs pay homage to the Mediterranean port's leafy boulevards and gardens.”

“Kate Spain’s new collection harmoniously blends the serenity of nature with the vibrant colors and patterns of diverse global cultures,” says Surya President Satya Tiwari. “She delivers a uniquely modern sensibility to the range, with a show-stopping palette that I know our retailers and the design community will love.”

Market visitors are invited to join Kate and the Surya team in celebrating the launch of this spirited new collection during the Designer Spotlight event, beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 21 at the brand’s Showplace 4100 location.
