Surya will launch at April’s High Point Market three rug collections from William Mangum, a nationally- and internationally-acclaimed artist who – for more than 35 years – has captured in his paintings the essence of the American landscape.

From the aura and textures of the Blue Ridge Mountains to sparkling, windswept shorelines, Mangum’s rug designs artfully infuse elements of the natural world into living spaces to create inspired tapestries that celebrate the lives of the inhabitants.

The collections, which take their cues from the diverse regions in Mangum’s native North Carolina, include:
  • Artisan – Overscaled fern and pine motifs are brought to life in this outdoor safe collection of hand-hooked rugs featuring tonal hues in a natural palette.
  • Essential – Hand-woven jute and colors of earth blend harmoniously in this textural collection, echoing the rugged beauty of the ever-changing landscape.
  • Remarque – Impressions of sand and water kissed by dappled sunlight evoke a sense of gentle movement in this collection of hand-tufted wool rugs with viscose accents.
“My goal as an artist is help people to become astute observers of the world around them, to encourage them to pause and appreciate nature’s inherent ability to shape our mood and comfort levels,” said William Mangum, artist. “With these new rug collections for Surya, I wanted to provide an accessible way for people to bring the beauty of the outdoors into their home environments while also complementing the latest home decor and fashion trends. The Surya team has been a great partner in translating my artistic vision into timeless, handcrafted rugs that provide the perfect canvas upon which individuals can express their unique style.”

“As a lifelong student of nature, Bill Mangum possesses the rare ability to see beyond the surface of the landscape to capture its intrinsic beauty in a way that really speaks to the viewer,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “Likewise, at Surya, we are always looking beyond what has been done before to find new and different ways to bring inspired design into the home. Working with Bill is a natural fit as we continue to expand our product portfolio to reflect diverse styles and themes, and we are excited to share these new collections with our customers.”

Market attendees are invited to explore William Mangum’s rug collections at Surya’s flagship showroom – Showplace 4100 – which will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Surya is also hosting several educational and social events and will serve a complimentary catered breakfast and lunch each day, along with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails each evening.

Houzz, the online home remodeling and design platform, has honored Surya with a Best Of Houzz 2015 award in the Design category. This marks the second consecutive year that the home accessories brand has received this distinction.

More than 25 million users are currently active in the Houzz community. Surya was once again awarded a Best Of Houzz designation because images showcased in the brand’s Surya Spaces project, which includes design projects incorporating Surya products, were among the images most frequently clicked on and added to a Houzz ideabook during 2014.

“We are excited that so many Houzz users have been inspired by projects featuring Surya accessories,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “At Surya, we strive each and every day to provide highly relevant, fashion forward products that elevate to the next level what’s possible in design. We know that designers have a choice when selecting accessories for their home decor projects and appreciate that they continue to choose our products and share their design creations on Houzz.”

Surya is launching later this month a versatile custom art program that makes it easy to browse and order art work from an archive of more than 7,000 curated images spanning a wide variety of subjects and styles. The diverse art work library contains thousands of limited editions along with exclusive works from more than 100 artists – ranging from contemporary to transitional to traditional looks. Winter market attendees are invited to preview the innovative new program during market in Surya’s Dallas and Las Vegas showrooms.

The custom art program, which will be available on, has been created to provide optimal convenience and design flexibility. Website visitors will be guided through a series of easy-to-navigate steps where they can select an image from categories that include abstract, animals, architectural, botanical, landscape and photography, and then specify the desired medium, framing options and size to create a custom piece that matches their unique design vision. Up to half a million custom configurations will be available.

The flexible program will offer the choice of conventional mediums, including canvas and paper, as well as alternate substrates such as acrylic, metal and wood. High quality materials such as eco-friendly archival, latex and UV-curable inks along with museum grade canvas and acid-free paper will ensure outstanding image reproduction and help to extend the life of the art work. Crafted in the USA by artisan framers, all pieces will be constructed using raw materials and products sourced and manufactured in the USA and arrive ready to hang.

“Today’s design savvy consumers don’t want to see the art work they purchased on their neighbor’s walls,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “They are looking to create personalized living spaces that speak to their individual style and make a unique statement. Our new custom art program addresses this need by providing almost limitless art options while also offering the highest level of craftsmanship and quick turnaround times, all at a very affordable price point.”

Winter market attendees can view a demo of the new art program from Jan. 14-20 at Surya’s Dallas showroom (WTC 560) or from Jan. 18-22 at Surya’s Las Vegas showroom (WMC C400), both of which are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Surya is introducing at Atlanta Market the latest in a series of innovative, retail focused display solutions. The Design Gallery, which is on view in Surya’s AmericasMart showroom – 11-A-1 – has been created to give furniture retailers and designers an attractive, space-conscious way to showcase multiple Surya rugs within their retail space.

Available in two easy-to-assemble configurations, the Design Gallery comes fully stocked with up to 180 unique 18" corner samples, each of which includes a corresponding room scene, additional colorways and/or shapes, and list of available sizes. A warm wood finish and modern, clean-lined design invite customers to approach and interact with the display.

The first option features angled swivel arms for convenient viewing of up to 66 rug samples. Retailers and designers can choose any combination of 18” samples from Surya’s more than 5,500 rug designs. A second option accommodates up to 180 samples that can easily be slid along rods for quick access. Both options include a choice of black or white hangers. Additionally, existing samples can be switched out for new samples at any time for only the cost of freight, providing ultimate design flexibility.

“Strategic placement of displays in a store or showroom can increase customer engagement during the purchasing process, helping to drive sales and maximize profitability per square foot,” said Satya Tiwari, president, Surya. “The Design Gallery offers a great way to showcase multiple rug styles, colors and constructions while also making it easier for sales associates and designers to help their customers find the ideal rug to meet their decor needs.”

The versatile new display can be placed along a wall, used as a divider within a retail space or serve as a backdrop for a vignette. The back side of the Design Gallery includes colorful lifestyle imagery, or retailers can opt to display full-sized rugs using convenient built-in grooves.

Market attendees are invited to view the innovative display solution, which has received a very positive response from retailers and designers, through Jan. 13 at Surya’s Atlanta showroom (AmericasMart 11-A-1) or from Jan. 18-22 at Surya’s Las Vegas showroom (WMC C400).
