Known for her globally inspired aesthetic, she has gained a strong following in recent years within the design community for her thoughtfully designed custom rugs.
Her passion for world travel and cultural exploration are reflected in Voyages and Destinations, two broad new ranges of flat-weave and hand-tufted area rugs that bring her signature style to the consumer. From the rice paddies of Bali to Carnival celebrations in the Caribbean, the spirited collections transport home decor to faraway places with their globally inspired motifs, unique textures and rich palettes. “Malene B brings an entirely new aesthetic to the Surya brand with her globally inspired design perspective and playful sense of color. Her designs tap into the growing convergence between distinct cultural styles – which I believe will resonate strongly with our retail partners and consumers,” says Surya President, Satya Tiwari.
The collections will make their debut during the upcoming Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market beginning January 9 – 16, 2012. The seeds of the Malene B brand were sewn on a trip to Southeast Asia in early 2001. The visit renewed a passion for the diversity of international cultures that she had felt since childhood. She eventually brought her unique vision of global design through rug making to reality in 2008, with the ongoing goal of interpreting the beauty of diverse world cultures into beautiful, functional products for everyday living and workspaces. For Malene B, she feels there is no better place to share her inspirations than through rug design.

November 2, 2012 (Calhoun, GA) — Home accessory solutions brand Surya, recently raised money for the life-changing Akshaya Patra organization through it’s own “Miles for Meals” program. The world’s largest NGO-run meal program, the charity serves over 1.3 million children in rural India freshly prepared, nutritious meals every day. For many of them, the Akshaya Patra provided lunch might be their only complete meal for the day. This work also acts as a powerful incentive for parents to keep their children in school.
Surya became involved with the organization earlier in 2012, donating $250,000 – helping to provide thousands of children with healthy meals for an entire year. Surya President, Satya Tiwari decided to use an upcoming local race to further this worthwhile cause. He and a team of Surya employees, all running in the Atlanta AllState Half-Marathon enlisted the help of family, friends, customers and the local community in raising donations for their program – which they’ve dubbed “Miles for Meals.” The group was able to raise over $29,000 – exceeding their initial goal by over $4,000. These valuable donations will in turn, help the organization to feed 1,941 children over the coming year.
“I want to personally thank all of those who donated their time and money towards this amazing cause. Growing up in northern India, I saw the desperate need that still exists in so many communities for the healthy food and educational opportunities that can so easily be taken for granted,” says Tiwari.
The program continues its efforts and anyone interested in placing a donation or learning more about the work of Akshaya Patra is invited to get started on Surya’s Miles for Meals site: www.razoo.com/story/Suryamilesformeals
