SURYA PRESIDENT SATYA TIWARI NAMED EY ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR® 2017 FINALIST 5.11.17

Satya Tiwari, president of Surya, has been selected as a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2017 Award in the Southeast. The award honors outstanding business leaders who are excelling in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Under Tiwari’s leadership, Surya has grown organically from $2.7 million in sales in 2004 to $116 million in 2016.  Since 2010, he has incrementally added new product categories each year, branching from rugs to pillows, throws, bedding, wall decor, accent furniture and decorative accents.  Last year, the company moved into its one-million-square-foot state-of-the-art corporate headquarters and distribution center, where it currently houses more than 500 employees and stocks 60,000+ SKUs.   A testament to this growth, Surya has been recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of America’s fastest growing privately held companies for six years in a row.

“It is truly an honor to be selected as a finalist for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award and to be considered in the ranks of the Southeast’s most visionary business leaders,” said Tiwari. “The Surya team’s passion and commitment to our customers has been a driving factor for all the decisions that have contributed to Surya’s growth and success, and I attribute this achievement to them.”

Chosen by a panel of independent judges, regional award winners will be announced at a special gala on June 8 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Georgia.  The overall winners will be announced at the Entrepreneur Of The Year National Awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., on Nov. 18, 2017. SURYA SPONSORS 2017 NORTHWEST GEORGIA MARCH FOR BABIES 5.09.17

As the Signature Sponsor of the Northwest Georgia “March for Babies”, Surya raised $11,300 for the March of Dimes' research in the prevention of birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

On May 5, 2017, Surya employees participated in the 5K walk/run at Dellinger Park in Cartersville, Ga. to raise funds and awareness of the March of Dimes’ initiatives. Leading up to the event, over 200 Surya employees along with friends and family members donated to multiple fundraisers that included weekly pancake breakfasts, “Change for Change” jars and tote bag sales with proceeds going to the march’s funds.

“We are pleased to partner with the March of Dimes organization again this year,” said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya. “As a recent father, I personally relate to and empathize with parents’ desire for smooth pregnancies and healthy deliveries. The March of Dimes’ research alongside its assistance to families of children born prematurely or with deficiencies represents incredibly important work and the Surya family fully supports and encourages it.”

The March of Dimes “March for Babies” event raised close to $90 million in 500 communities in the United States in 2016. Every year, 380,000 babies are born prematurely, and premature birth is still the leading cause of infant deaths. To decrease and, ultimately, resolve this issue, the March of Dimes has established five prematurity research centers across the country, where nearly 200 scientists and doctors are examining, identifying and preventing the causes of preterm birth. The Northwest Georgia “March for Babies” raised $48,555 to date, with more donations still being submitted.

With over 500 employees at its corporate headquarters and distribution center, Surya is a major employer in the Cartersville area and has a history of supporting local community events and organizations such as the Northwest Georgia “March for Babies” and local food pantries.
